Intentional Listening

An image taken a few years back during my experimentation with street photography. I was mesmerized by the gentleman’s facial expressions. I wondered as a silent observer about the content of their conversation.

Artdromeda

December 3, 2009

A few months ago I received an e-mail about a non-juried art display venue in Baltimore, located in the Pigtown area, which I find out later is proximate to the  giant sports stadiums.  After a few minutes of reading the  e-mail, I clicked on the link and checked it out further.

Because there weren’t many details about the show at that time, I decided to drive up to Baltimore to get a lay of the land, so to speak. Here are a few images from that location.

1. When you arrive in Pigtown by car, you are greeted with a great mural of pigs on your left as you drive through Washington Boulevard. A great art piece that welcomes you to the neighborhood, this image captures probably a third of the wall.  You should check it out in person. I wish I knew the name of the artist that painted it.

2. After exploring the street areas of Pigtown, I decided to enter a local cafe and restaurant called Elfegne Ethiopian Cafe. The owner allowed me to take some shots of the place.

3. I sat down and ordered the coffee, which was quite good. The owner  and I talked about the history of her cafe and the history of coffee in her country.

Shortly after my visit to Pigtown,  I registered eventually for the show.

Viola!

Fast forward. Artdromeda now opens tonight 6 pm EST. More information about the show can be found at http://www.artdromeda.com.  The art festival  ends Sunday night (December 3 – December 6), and  it’s sponsored by the Pigtown Main Street, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving Pigtown’s Washington Boulevard commercial corridor in Baltimore City. If you’re in the area, please stop by for fun, music, and, of course, art.
